Happened across this item when looking for some Christmas gifts for my dad. When I saw it, I knew I HAD TO get it for him. My dad eats a bowl of ice cream EVERY NIGHT, which was a habit he picked up from his mother, and has passed onto me (no shame in my ice cream game!).He absolutely loved it, and lit up after he figured out what it was! In his older age (and less than perfect eyesight), it took him a moment to figure out what it said, but I would blame the dim lighting in my living room (I hate bright, artificial lights) and that fact that he's in his 60s and has less than 20/20, even corrected with glasses, vision and not as a fault of the item. I found the engraving to be easily legible and well pronounced.He loved it so much that he even sent me a picture with his new "ice cream shovel" digging into his bowl of ice cream the very next night (my dad NEVER sends pictures like this!) and I wish I would have saved it to share with my review. That warmed my heart beyond words.I made sure to ask him about functionality, which he said it worked perfectly. I had read other reviews on this one and a few similar ones and wanted to ensure I got one that was as practical as it was novel. Upon receipt, it seemed like the size was appropriately functional (similar to that of the "larger spoon" size that one would receive in a silverware set, with maybe a slightly longer handle). The curvature of the spoon seemed to be similar to that of a normal, non-soup spoon. That said, if you're (or the recipient is) someone who prefers a smaller "dessert style" spoon for your ice cream, this may not be what you're looking for, as it is much larger than that. For my dad, who truly does "shovel" the ice cream into his mouth (my mom's words, not mine!!!! ?), this was a perfect size and was not at all "too big."All in all, I loved this item and I know my dad did as well. The giftability could have been slightly better for the price (a nice little box would have been much more presentable than the thick plastic, zipper top "bag" that it came in), but I managed to find a long, thin box to put it into myself for a better presentation. Not everyone will have something like that on hand, though, so just don't expect this to come "gift ready," if that is something that is of importance to you. Regardless, I still highly recommend this item. It is the one I chose after looking through a few other, similar selections (with varying pros/cons), and I am incredibly happy with the selection I made!
